Easter Decor

Give me a season, reason or holiday .... and I'll decorate for it.

So I'm in full Easter mode here and luckily its only days before I can eat chocolate again.  So, let me share with you how I've decorated my home.

I got this little "e" last year from Hugs and Hearts and the wreath from Waitrose

I've had my Easter tree, what seems like forever. 

I saw this candle holder decor on Pinterest last year, and decided to give the little idea a go.  The bunnies, I got from Tiger a few years ago.  I've dotted them all around the house.  The little nest the bunny is sitting on, is a mini wreath, which I cut to make it larger.  I think it was initially meant to be a napkin ring.

I seem to have gone a little Rabbit mad, haven't I.  Funny, but this little chap came from Sainsbury's last year, and nothing to do with Easter.  The nest, was a purchase this year, from Marks and Spencer.

I told you the bunnies, were everywhere!  My little salt & pepper pot, is another I've had fore ages.  The White company candle is new, and oh my goodness, if you've not tried a White Company candle, I urge you to.  They smell amazing, and last for ages, such great value.  Yes, they're a little expensive, but so worth it. 

Finally, my little wreath; I think this came from a garden centre a few years ago, and it will make it to my door on Good Friday for the Easter Holiday, but for now, its making me smile every evening.

Something that is defiantly new this year, is this gorgeous Easter Egg, and box of chocolates that Simon came home with yesterday.  Oh I know, I'm spoilt and these are my absolute favourite chocolates.  Happy Me, for sure.

IKEA Hack

If you're as obsessed with Pinterest as I am, you may have seen lots of IKEA hacks. In other words, things things from IKEA that have been changed slightly.  Well, here's our IKEA hack.

We've had our floating shelves in our living room, for well, it seems forever. Maybe 10 years or more, absolutely nothing wrong with them, but I felt like they're slightly dated.

This was how they looked. Like I say, nothing really wrong, I just felt they looked harsh. 

Simon, took them off the wall, and down to his workshop, where he fitted architrave around the outside edges, with wood glue and nails.  

I then got to work with the paint, and voila.

All done, and back in place. 

Copper Trend

During my journey to update our home, I thought I'd do this, by bringing some of the new trends into it.  Nothing big, just the odd piece here and there.  So with that in mind, I'm going to share with you some of those that interest me, and show you how I'm going to incorporate them into our home.

So first up, one of the biggest trends in interiors this year has been copper .... seriously it's everywhere. Now, I'm always on the look out on way to update our home, and I don't see this trend moving along anytime soon.  Actually, I've got a copper kettle which used to belong to Simon's Nans.

So let me share with you a few things that might interest you.

First up I'm loving the cox and cox wrapping paper ; then Next have a fabulous kitchen section in copper, including these salt & pepper pots.  Dunelm, always delivers great value trends, and the light pendant and cushion are from them (I'm hoping to get the cushion, I mean come on, its gorgeous). Another shop on my list, is always Wilko, and this latern is lovely.  John Lewis, always do the most amazing Christmas decorations, so if copper is your colour for your tree this year, these are a must.  Last but by no means least ... The place for great on trend design, is always Not on the High Street, and I'm feeling, this little copper vase, may fall into my basket. 

I've kept all my finds, under £20, its a way to see if you're interested in a trend and then maybe if you feel its working for you, a more substantial purchase is worth investing in.

I've also bought some copper/rose coloured candles too, as my idea, is that I can use the larger ones as vases after I've burnt them.  

This trend certainly works during Autumn and Winter when we're looking to bring warmth and cosiness into our homes.  I hope you've enjoyed this slightly different post from me, I've few more in ideas to share with you soon

Kitchen Remodel

I've shared with you the finished dresser, now to show you the other side of the kitchen and the painted units.

It took me over a year to finally come to the nerve to paint our kitchen.  I umm'd and ahhhh'd and worried that I might spoil it.  After all, I still loved our kitchen, it was just the one day, I could count 4 different shades of oak, where the sun had bleached it.  Plus, Simon installed the kitchen over 12 years ago, and we felt that it was looking a little dated.

I'm pleased though that I initially picked a shaker style kitchen and one with simple lines, as now it's painted, I love it even more.

Let me share with you some of the before and process photos.

There you have it, my process.  I will be sharing a little post later on, about how I painted it, you know, tips and tricks I picked up, just in case anyone wants to have a little go at painting their units, and also some more of the finished look.

Its Aga day

Its here .... Its really here, and ooohhh she's such a beauty.

The day went much better than I thought, I was so so worried about the bears and how they'd be with people working in the house, but I needn't have worried too much. Yes there was some barking, but on the whole they were really good.

We did close off where they were working, with gates .. last thing I needed to see was a little Lakeland butt running down the garden with a spanner or some integral part of the aga and a workman running after them.

So here you are, just a few photos from the day! .... and yes, I did warn the chaps putting the Aga in that I was a scrapbooker, so I take a LOT of photos.

Dresser Makeover

As you know, I'm a real homebody, and something I've always wanted was a kitchen dresser, you know somewhere to display all those collectables that we all seem to have.  I did look around to see if I could find one to replace the fitted unit we had, but nothing seemed quite right, or had as much storage as we needed.

So luckily for me, I'm married to a very very clever chap and Simon said that he thought he could change it into a dresser .... and boy, did he do that!

I'm honestly, so in love with it. 

So let me take you through how we came to this.

This was it originally, nothing wrong with it, in fact it did used to have doors on it, but we removed those long ago.  As I said, nothing wrong with it, but we wanted to lighten up the kitchen and bring it more up to date.

So first doors and handles all came off to make painting easier, and then cupboards were removed from the wall so that Simon could add the tongue and grove. 

It had to be bear proofed, while the painting was happening, and the dining room, became my painting room

I was watched over by my boy, to make sure it was up to his standards

We also changed the worktop

and the handles 

And voila ... there you have it. We chose to paint it in a different shade to the rest of the kitchen as it really is more a stand alone piece and as you can imagine, I've over the moon with it.

Week 12 ... The week that was

filled with cold and flu tablets.

Sadly, Simon succumbed to his cold over the weekend, while we were at the little house, and although that meant we didn't get out and about much, we still had a lovely time.  I apologies now, as this post is filled with photos of the bears.

I moved this little footstool while moving furniture around, and Molly seems to like it, right where it is. 

The bears had another trip to the vet, for their kennel cough injection

 

Easter decorations came out and this little "E" was waiting for me, when we arrived home. 

We went to a vintage handmade fair at the weekend, and had a lovely time, and I got some lovely bits.

And finally .... looks like I'll have more sewing to do!
